It can sometimes be an ill-fitting shoe that’s causing pain and discomfort. It can also be your feet crying out for better support when you’re walking, running, skating or skiing. How do you know the difference?
You probably won’t, but your Registered Chiropodist/Podiatrist will. They have the formal education, training, and licencing to determine the root cause of your pain and discomfort and will offer suggestions on how to decrease or eliminate it altogether!
You may need different shoes.
We can help you select the right shoe option. For the convenience of our patients, we carry an extensive line of therapeutic and orthopaedic footwear, including Brooks, Biotime, Drew, Dr. Comfort, Portofino and Berkemann, as well as custom made Birkenstock sandals.
You may need an orthotic device for your shoes.
Generally speaking, an orthotic is a device that is custom designed and manufactured specifically to your needs in order to control the degree of movement of the foot when walking, running, skating, skiing, or participating in other sports.
Orthotics are inserted in your shoes, boots and sports footwear. They are designed to help athletes and weekend warriors of all ages enhance their performance and endurance, and alleviate the pain and discomfort of arthritis and joint pain and foot disorders such as fallen arches, heel spurs, bunions, sport injuries, etc.
Orthotics for Children.
A Chiropodist/Podiatrist may determine that a child needs biomechanical orthotics to improve foot and leg function, sports endurance or performance. Just as prescriptive eye glasses come in different styles and correction, so do custom orthotics. These devices fit into the child’s footwear and help the foot perform at its peak efficiency at rest, play, or competition. By controlling foot function; accommodating deformities and other anomalies the foot will be given a chance to grow correctly.
