What to Expect & How to Prepare

Preparing for your first chiropody appointment can ease apprehension and ensure a productive session. Here’s a guide to help you know what to expect and how to prepare.

Before the Appointment

  • Complete Necessary Forms: You’ll be asked to complete a medical history and consent form. To save time, consider downloading and completing the form before your visit. If you cannot complete the form before the day of the assessment, we request that you arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment to complete it in the clinic.
  • Prepare Questions and Concerns: List any foot-related issues, symptoms, or questions you have. This will ensure that all your concerns are addressed during the consultation.

During the Appointment

  • Initial Consultation: Your chiropodist will discuss your medical history, lifestyle, and foot health goals to understand your specific needs.
  • Comprehensive Foot Examination: This includes assessing lesions (such as corns, calluses, warts, moles, wounds, or ulcers), evaluating range of motion, gait analysis, circulation, sensation, and skin colour, and taking digital photographs of your feet to monitor any changes over time.
  • Discussion of Findings and Treatment Options: After the examination, the chiropodist will explain their findings and present suitable treatment options. This is an opportunity to ask questions and understand the proposed care plan.

After the Appointment

  • Follow-Up Care: Based on the initial assessment, a follow-up appointment may be scheduled to
  •  monitor progress or continue treatment.
  • Hygiene and Sterilization: Rest assured that after each patient, the clinic maintains high standards of cleanliness. Treatment rooms are thoroughly disinfected, and all instruments are sterilized using an autoclave, adhering to stringent medical standards.

Additional Tips

  • Insurance Coverage: Routine foot care is often covered by extended health insurance under paramedical services. Many policies allow coverage up to a certain amount per year for chiropody and/or podiatry services. It’s advisable to check your specific coverage details before the appointment.
  • Regular Visits: Schedule chiropody appointments every season to maintain optimal foot health or as your chiropodist recommends. Regular check-ups can help in early detection and treatment of potential issues.

By understanding the process and preparing accordingly, your first chiropody appointment can be a positive step toward achieving and maintaining healthy feet.
