We are Open! We are booking appointments once again

Published On: June 3, 2020

To our Valued Patients,

With guidance from The College of Chiropodists and the Chief Medical Officer of Health for Ontario, we are pleased to let you know that our office is open for all essential chiropody services. Please contact the office to schedule an appointment for your footcare needs.

The clinic will look different going forward, however, you can rest assured that our commitment to providing the same top-quality care has not changed. We would like to share with you what measures we have implemented to protect you and our staff and prevent the spread of COVID-19.

What to expect when you come to our clinic:

Screening – Screening for COVID-19 and its symptoms will become commonplace and multi-tiered. You can expect to answer questions about your health during phone conversations, at the door, and at reception or in the treatment room. We will use an online e-form that is signed and submitted from an iPad in for ease of disinfection. As required by new guidelines, we will also be recording your temperature using a touchless thermometer.

Support Persons – As per Ministry of Health of Ontario guidelines, we ask that you come to your appointment alone and as close to the allotted time as possible so that we may adhere to social distancing and sanitization procedures. Only essential support persons will be allowed to enter our clinic (i.e. a support person assisting a patient with a mobility impairment) whom we will also be screening upon arrival.

Patient mask-wearing – We will require you to bring along and wear a mask for your appointment at our clinic. The mask will need to cover your nose and mouth and needs to be made of a material that will stop droplets (saliva and nasal secretions) from entering the air. For your convenience, we do offer disposable masks ($2/ea) and reusable, fabric masks ($5/ea) for a nominal fee. All proceeds from fabric mask sales will be going towards a local food bank.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Staff members that come within 2 meters of you during your time in the clinic will be wearing full PPE: face shield, mask, gown and/or scrubs, and gloves.

Social distancing measures – We have markings on the floors to indicate appropriate spacing between patients and staff. Appointments have been spaced at greater intervals to minimize overlapping. Our waiting room chairs have been spaced at least 2 metres apart and are disinfected after each use.

Air purification – We continue to use a Surgically Clean Air Purifier in the clinic, which removes 99% of all airborne viruses, bacteria, and fungus every 70 minutes.

New Payment options – To minimize the amount of physical interaction needed, we have increased the maximum tap amount for credit cards to $250, and now accept e-transfers.

  • e-Transfers – To minimize points of contact while in the clinic, we now offer the ability to e-transfer payment from your mobile device. Before coming to your appointment, simply set up our clinic as a New Contact in your mobile banking app. Use the email address: info@werkman.ca When the time comes to pay, log in to your banking app complete the transfer. We offer free WIFI to make this even easier! Once paid, we can email you the receipt directly, no paper necessary.

You might be wondering what our staff was up to while the clinic was closed

While our clinic was closed, our chiropodists have used this time to continue their education through online courses, webinars and learning more about “COVID toes”. All staff has also completed training on the proper use of PPE as applicable to their role.
We have also performed a deep clean of surfaces within the clinic and removed any non-essential items from the waiting rooms (i.e. books, pamphlets, products etc.). While it looks a little less cozy, this will allow us to regularly, and efficiently, disinfect all surfaces.

Stay tuned!

Owner and Chiropodist Rick Werkman has provided you with a virtual walkthrough of our clinic, explaining the changes we have implemented and what to expect at your next visit. Click to watch the video!

We also will be implementing virtual check-in later this month. You will be able to let us know you have arrived from the comfort of your car using a texting service, and we will be able to let you know when it is safe to come in for your appointment.

See you at the clinic!

We would like to thank our patients for their understanding and patience. We look forward to seeing you in the clinic and being able to continue to provide exceptional footcare for people of all ages.
