Podiatric Bone & Soft Tissue Surgery

Why Podiatric Surgery?

Podiatric surgery is available when conservative care no longer alleviates painful/undesired symptoms. It is also an effective option for those unhappy with the appearance of their feet due to bony pathology, such as an enlarged bunion.

If you suffer from any of the listed ailments, from bunions to hammertoes to permanent corn and callus solutions, podiatric surgery may be right for you. Allen Frankel, DPM, is performing podiatric surgeries with us. Contact the Werkman, Boven Foot & Orthotic Clinic to set up a consult today!

Surgical Procedures

Arthroplasty for Hammertoes

Arthroplasty is a procedure commonly used to treat various joint disorders, including severe cases of hammertoes or arthritis affecting toe joints. It involves the partial or total removal of the damaged joint. The affected joint is prepared by removing any bone spurs and damaged cartilage. The joint is then partially removed using saws and bone cutters and closed with sutures. Arthroplasty procedures are associated with pain relief, improved joint function, and enhanced quality of life.

Cheilectomy for Joint Pain

Cheilectomy is a procedure performed to alleviate pain and improve joint function in individuals suffering from hallux rigidus, a condition characterized by stiffness and arthritis in the big toe joint. The surgeon carefully removes any bone spurs, excess tissue, or damaged cartilage that may be causing impingement and limiting movement in the joint. Cheilectomy procedures have several benefits, including reduced pain, improved range of motion, and enhanced joint function.

Neurectomy for Morton’s Neuroma

Neurectomy is a procedure used to treat painful, sharp, shooting, shock-like symptoms in the forefoot region of our feet. This procedure involves gently dissecting down to the inflamed and bulbous portion of a damaged nerve root, often referred to as Morton’s Neuroma, wherein careful surgical excision and decompression of the area are performed. This procedure is associated with pain relief and restored quality of life.

Osteotomy for Callus

Osteotomy is a procedure commonly used to treat painful calluses. It involves surgical cutting of bone at a precise angle to allow the bone to slide upwards, reducing the focused pressure underneath the offending joint. Osteotomy procedures are associated with pain relief, callus formation reduction, reduced risk of ulceration, and enhanced quality of life.

Minimal Incision Bunionectomy for Hallux and Tailor’s Bunion

If non-surgical treatments fail to relieve pain and when pain interferes with daily activities, it is time to discuss surgical options with a podiatric surgeon. Together, you can decide if surgery is best for you. We proudly offer this specialized service at Werkman, Boven & Associates Foot Clinic.

A minimally invasive (MIS) bunionectomy is a surgical procedure for correcting a bunion deformity with minimal disruption to surrounding tissues. Performed under local anesthesia, this procedure involves carefully removing excess bone and realigning the affected joint to correct the bunion. Specialized instruments, such as burrs, rasps, or saws, are used to trim and reshape the bone, allowing for precise correction while minimizing damage to surrounding tissues.
